What’s in this newsletter?
We want to take a moment to acknowledge the time, dedication, and passion each of you invest in your courses. You create opportunities for learners to reach for the job promotion that was once out of sight, discover new worlds of interests and hobbies that bring richness to their daily lives, and even contribute to a more peaceful world by introducing new perspectives and paradigms that help us develop empathy for others.
“My life is forever changed. Permaculture principles can and will be applied in all areas of my life and the lives I come across.”

The Results Are In!
Last May the Canvas Network Team reiterated our commitment to moving from being a passive promoter to an active promoter of openness in education. We set some challenging goals and are pleased to announce we not only met these goals, we exceeded them!
The results are in. Over 80% of courses have publicly visible URL’s and 300 courses and learning objects have been shared to Canvas Commons. The number of Creative Commons licenses for courses that listed or started between March 1, 2016 and March 1, 2017 also increased to 61%.
This could not have been done without your support. Thank you.
A Limited Time Offer! Badgr Pro Promotion
The folks at Concentric Sky, the creators Badgr, have done it again. They have taken their commitment to Open Badges and student engagement to a new level. First they provided free access to Badgr for Canvas Network clients, then added Badgr Pro at no additional cost. Now, for a limited time only, you can use Badgr Pro in your school’s instance of Canvas for six months at no cost or obligation. Just Contact Badgr by May 31, 2017. Learn more about Badgr by signing up for Concentric Sky’s Canvas Network course Gamify Your Canvas Course with Badgr Open Badges.
Engage your students with digital badges! For a limited time, join Badgr’s pilot program and get unlimited access to Badgr Pro for free.
Badgr is fast and easy. It's a free, easy-to-use LTI app that allows you to award Open Badges within Canvas. Setup takes less than 5 minutes. Students earn badges automatically as they complete modules and instructors can enable a course leaderboard to add an element of gamification. Learn more.
Badgr Pro provides insights. Their premium upgrade, Badgr Pro, layers valuable analytics into your badging program inside Canvas allowing you to view stats for badge awards, unique badge recipients and badge shares over time.
Meet the Canvas Network Team
Hilary began her career at Instructure as an Instructional Designer with Canvas Network.
Her favorite part of the job is focusing on continuously improving both the user experience and the experience of her team members through Canvas Network pilots, policy making, and initiatives.
Most of her free time is spent volunteering with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.
Jane is an experienced instructional designer, online educator and administrator. Jane also began her career at Instructure as a Canvas Network Instructional Designer. Jane manages all things related to your course listings and acts as the senior Canvas admin.
Her favorite part of the job is troubleshooting and developing her technical skills.
When she is not at work you can find her playing the piano for local churches, community productions or even her french bulldog Charley.
Client Relationship Manager
Gustavo joined Canvas Network this last November and has proven to be a great addition. He is often the first person our clients meet when they start learning about Canvas Network.
His favorite part of the job is working with educators from all over the world, and helping them host courses online that can benefit learners who might otherwise not have access to any formal education.
When he’s not at work you can bet he’s playing tennis, snowboarding, exploring trails along the Wasatch front, or visiting with friends.
Instructional Design Consultant
We are currently in the process of hiring a new Instructional Designer for our team. But don’t worry, Jane and Hilary are conducting course reviews and responding to questions through email@example.com.
NEW! firstname.lastname@example.org: The new way to communicate with the team.
If you have questions about Canvas, your course or your schedule of deadlines just email email@example.com. The firstname.lastname@example.org email is shared by the Canvas Network team. Feel confident knowing that your email will be responded to quickly and by someone with experience.
Sneak Peek at Canvas Network Initiatives
Coming soon! The team is busily planning and testing a new course proposal process. This process will include a more rigorous course proposal form and better supportive materials to help you get started. If you would like to volunteer to review the process or would even like to provide ideas on what we can do to help you be more successful, we’d love to hear it. Just email Hilary at email@example.com
Happening now! We are currently piloting a new button on our listing page that will allow learners to preview a course after the course concludes. This will allow you to continue to showcase your efforts in read only mode. Those who are previewing the course are not able to take quizzes, view discussion posts from enrolled learners, or earn badges/certificates.
Happening now! Ten courses have been selected to pilot a new custom integration by Blue Course Evaluations in May. This integration will make surveying learners and downloading reports even easier.
If you would like to participate in any of these pilots please let Hilary know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
